ARMANDO, May 22, 2011, San Francisco, CA — 49 years old and originally hailing from Los Angeles, Armando has lived in San Francisco since 1993. Armando goes to church on 14th Street and lives on 16th Street, and has recently been attending AA meetings during the day. Armando had a friend who died as an alcoholic, and he says he’s learned from that. Two years ago, Armando had a seizure and fell on his head. Doctors had to remove part of his skull and freeze it, and then put it back. They later found blood in his brain, and had to do a second operation. Both operations were performed in Laguna Honda, California. Armando loves hockey and is really excited that the San Jose Sharks beat the Vancouver Canucks today.
JJ, May 22, 2011, San Francisco, CA — Originally hailing from upstate New York and a resident of San Francisco for 2 years, JJ is a barista at Four Barrel Coffee in the Mission district. Prior to living in San Francisco, JJ lived in Chico, Califoria where worked at small coffee shop and learned how to make great espresso. At one time JJ also resided in the great state of Nevada. Last night JJ had an 8% (alcohol by volume) beer at Heart (a restaurant in the Mission) that was so thick and rich that it made her think of espresso. JJ says that the owner of Four Barrel Coffee is a man by the name of Jeremy, and before starting Four Barrel he was part owner of Ritual Roasters, another coffee shop in the Mission. Jeremy often travels to South America to find the best beans for his coffee shop, and JJ says they bring the bags right through the front door.
